POEMS

(1)
"Somebody said that it couldn't be done
 But he with a chuckle replied,
 That ' maybe it couldn't ' , but he would be one
 Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried;
 So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
 On his face, if he worried he hid it.
 He started to sing as he tackled the thing
 That couldn't be done and he did it."

(2)
"Once in Persia reigned a king
Who upon his signet ring
Graved a maxim true and wise,
which if held before the eyes
Gave him counsel at a glance,
Fit for every change and chance
Solemn words , and these are they:
Even this shall pass away."

(3)
"Here's a sigh to those to those who love me
And a smile for those who hate;
And Whatever sky's above me,
There's a heart for every fate."

(4)
"Till the sun grows cold,
And the stars are old,
And the leaves of the Judgement,
Book unfold."

(5)
"There is so much good in the worst of us
And so much bad in the best of us,
That it ill behooves any of us
To find fault with the rest of us."

(6)
"In men whom others condemn as ill,
I find so much of goodness still;
In men whom others pronounce divine,
I find so much of sin and blot;
I do not dare to draw a line
Between the two, where God has not."

(7)
"If your lips would keep from slips
Five things observe with care;
To whom you speak, of whom you speak,
And how, and when, and where."

(8)
"A glory gilds the sacred page,
Majestic like the sun;
It gives a light to every age,
It gives but borrows none."
